The Prince of Tides, Pat Conroy

The Prince of Tides isn’t actually in the library at the moment - we didn’t intend to include it in Page A Day. But it’s the book we’re currently reading and today this page, from a story-within-a-story, caught us off guard as the kind of of magic that times like these need to shimmer with occasionally. It might give a false portrayal of the book as a whole. Or maybe it doesn’t. (Hard to tell, haven’t finished it yet.)

Pat Conroy (1945–2016) was an American author who wrote several acclaimed novels and memoirs, several of which (including The Prince of Tides) were subsequently made into films. Conroy began work on The Prince of Tides after moving from Atlanta to Rome, and it became his most successful book to date following its publication in 1986.
