No One Is Too Small To Make A Difference, Greta Thunberg

No One Is Too Small To Make A Difference is Greta Thunberg’s first book in English and brings together her speeches from climate rallies across Europe to audiences at the UN, the World Economic Forum and the British Parliament. It‘s thin, pocket-sized and large print. It wouldn’t be absurd to say, we don’t think, that it should be on everyone’s bedside or coffee table, bag or coat pocket. Whip it out as and when you need to hear its succinct messages told with direct and concentrated vigour, or need to recite them to someone who does.

This page is taken from Can You Hear Me?, Greta Thunberg’s speech at the Houses of Parliament in 2019. It questions how we measure success, or more it demands that the definition of success is changed, and quickly. As Tony Juniper said at Edinburgh International Book Festival 2018, “You wonder how we ended up in a position where we measure destruction as success ... The economic system is nonsense — what are we growing? Misery?”

Did you hear what I just said? Is my English okay? Is the microphone on? Because I’m beginning to wonder.
— Greta Thunburg, Can You Hear Me?

Born in Stockholm, Sweden on January 3 2003, Greta Thunberg is a climate activist who has received worldwide recognition for her efforts to fight climate change. Thunberg began her activism at age 15 and has (sustainably) travelled across continents to speak to world leaders about the climate crisis. She was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in March 2019, and in the same year became the youngest individual ever to be honored as Time's Person of the Year.
